Awarded annually on the recommendation of the School for Studies in Art and Culture to full-time students entering or continuing in a Bachelor of Music degree who demonstrate outstanding musical talent.

Established in 2026 in recognition of Jean Teron, an unwavering supporter of students, a believer in the beauty and power of music, and a long serving member and chair of Carleton’s Board of Governors who leads by recognizing and encouraging the success of students, faculty, alumni and community.

Since its founding in 1942, Carleton has maintained its core mission to serve the community in meaningful ways by providing opportunities for young people to engage in teaching and learning. It is through the enduring support of individuals like Jean Teron that Carleton has bolstered its role as a driver of positive change. Jean chose to attend Carleton because of its strong sense of community—a community she has helped strengthen through her involvement in key initiatives, including the acquisition of the Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre.

Her impact extends far beyond our campus, as she has been involved with organizations including the National Gallery of Canada, the Trillium Foundation, Ashbury College and the Kidney Foundation. Jean’s immense contributions as a community leader were recognized in 2013, when she was awarded an honorary degree “in recognition of outstanding contribution to business and commitment to philanthropic endeavours and the community.”
