Awarded annually, by the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs, on the recommendation of the Director of the School of Journalism and Communication, to outstanding students entering the Master of Journalism program. Endowed in 1999 by the Estate of Eleanore Roberta Powell, in honour of her parents, Robert and Alyce Martin. Mrs. Powell served as a reporter for the Ottawa Citizen during the Second World War. She later joined the women’s division of the Royal Canadian Air Force and worked as a public relations officer for the RCAF in Ottawa, Newfoundland and for RCAF HQ in London, England. She moved back to Ottawa after the war with her husband, Leslie C. Powell. Revised 2010.
