To support experimental research on the causes of peanut allergies, using a mouse model system. The goal of the project is to test whether there might be linkages between antibiotic exposure during early development and the expression of food allergies, in a mouse model. Funds will be used to offset charges associated with use of the animal care facility, salaries for technical help, expensive biochemical and genetic assays, and to purchase consumables (food bedding, antibiotics). The main funding will be for student salaries for research with the project. This research is meant to help understand a perplexing rise in allergies amongst children in westernized nations.
