The Karl Schnalzer Memorial Scholarship in Engineering was established by Karl’s friends and loved ones to help ensure his legacy lives on. Karl grew up and went to school in Pickering, Ontario where he touched the lives of many people from a young age through his extremely charismatic and thoughtful personality.

After graduating high-school, Karl studied software engineering at Carleton University where he made many new friends and meaningful connections. After graduation, he started his career where he excelled and had a bright future. Karl was not only extremely intelligent but also well-rounded as an avid adventurer, mountain biker, and sports enthusiast. Karl had the ability to hold a conversation with anyone on almost any subject and had a passion for making people laugh and living life to the fullest. In early 2023 Karl passed away suddenly. This scholarship was introduced to honour his life and his passion for Engineering with the goal of supporting the communities where Karl had such a profound impact.

Awarded annually to an outstanding undergraduate student from Pickering, Ontario (or nearby areas in Durham region) who is entering or continuing in a Bachelor of Engineering program. Preference will be given to students in Software Engineering. Endowed in 2023 by friends and family of the late Karl Schnalzer, BEng/2019.
