Awarded annually by the Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs to outstanding graduate students entering or continuing in any graduate degree program whose thesis research focuses on the interaction between human being and technology and the use of technology to enhance human communication and interpersonal experience. Recipients will be chosen by the awards committee of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs from a list of candidates recommended by each department. Endowed in 2003 by family, friends and colleagues in memory of J. James Mackie for his contribution to telecommunications and his lifelong interest in interactive media. After a long career as an executive in the Canadian telecommunications industry, Jim became a founding partner of Distinct Features Inc., an Ottawa-based feature film and TV production company.
