Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Director of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, to an outstanding graduate student in mathematics, entering or proceeding from one year to another. Eligible students must be Canadian Citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrant or a protected person), and must meet the Ontario Residency requirements of the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). Recipients must also demonstrate financial need. Endowed in 2003 by the friends, academic colleagues and the estate of Helga H. Schirmer, an outstanding topologist who was a member of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics for many years. Revised 2007.
