Founded in 1975, The Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race (GNCTR) is the longest-running engineering design competition in Canada. Students design, build, and race 300lbs toboggans with an enclosed frame, braking, steering, and running surfaces made entirely of concrete. Each year approximately 500 students representing 30 teams travel from across Canada to compete against their fellow engineers from different universities and technical institutions.
Your donations will help provide funding for registration, team travel, accommodations, and most importantly the toboggan materials and fabrication.
Carleton’s Concrete Toboggan Team has a unique, multidisciplinary composition. Students for the Departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, and Industrial Design work together to design the mechanical systems and concrete elements and push the boundaries of what a ‘Concrete Toboggan’ can achieve.
