Awarded annually on the recommendation of the Director of the School of Canadian Studies, to a Canadian Studies graduate student who demonstrates the need for financial assistance in order to excel in their studies. Preference is given to students enrolled in the Cultural Studies or Aboriginal Studies and the North program areas. Recipients must be Canadian Citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrant or a protected person), and must meet OSAP’s Ontario Residency requirements. Endowed in 2000 by the Sutherland family in tribute to the passion for the pursuit of knowledge that Colonel Sutherland has exemplified in all aspects of life. The award is intended to provide support for students who share this spirit.
