The C.J. Scott Memorial Award in International Relations and Diplomacy will honour C.J.’s intelligence, commitment and generosity.

C.J. joined Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada in 2004. She held several diplomatic assignments, before becoming Consul General in Barcelona, Spain and then Deputy High Commissioner and Senior Trade Commissioner, in Lagos Nigeria.

Throughout her career, C.J. pioneered and championed several initiatives designed to help all employees develop in their career and reach their full potential in the Department.  She served as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion champion for the Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers and as co-head of the Black Employees Network. C.J. also set up study groups, mentorship networks and information sessions to help colleagues with their career development—one of many examples of the meaningful legacy she leaves behind.

In 2022, C.J. received the first annual Randy Orr Memorial Award which recognizes the volunteer service and exceptional dedication of members of the Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers, their families or other colleagues that have contributed to improving the life of those who serve Canada abroad.

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of C.J. Scott in December 2023. Your contribution to this fund will help keep C.J.’s legacy of service to Canada and to community alive. All donations will be used to build the scholarship fund to ensure its stability so that we can continue to attract Black students to study international relations and diplomacy and pursue a career in the field, both domestically and globally.
