Thanks to the enduring generosity of Anna Tyson, the Anna Gail Tyson Library Fund enhances the resources available through the MacOdrum Library by supporting the library’s current and emerging needs.
The fund inspires students to explore a world of knowledge and discovery, reflecting the profound influence that books and learning had on Anna’s life. From early childhood, Anna was encouraged by her father—a voracious reader himself—to embrace reading as a gift, an influence that inspired her to pursue a degree in English and a career in teaching, grounded in a lifelong love of books and learning.
As part of a military family, Anna moved seventeen times before finding her path to Carleton University, where she completed her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English before pursuing her teaching career. Throughout her academic journey, Anna spent countless hours in the MacOdrum Library exploring her passions, and it soon became a place that felt like a second home. These memories continue to resonate deeply with her today, inspiring her to encourage students to discover their own passions and to help ensure that essential learning resources become increasingly accessible.
Anna’s lifelong dedication to education was reflected in her work at several schools within the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, as well as through her role as music librarian and choir treasurer at St. Thomas the Apostle Anglican Church. Her passion for teaching and learning reached far beyond the classroom, with many former students maintaining lasting connections with her—a reflection of the lasting impact of her guidance and mentorship.

The Anna Gail Tyson Library Fund exemplifies Anna’s commitment to encouraging students to fulfill their potential by ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed throughout their academic journey. Her generosity will support academic success through the MacOdrum Library for years to come.
The purpose of this fund is to support the MacOdrum library’s current and emerging needs, library acquisitions and priority projects. Established in 2025 by Anna Tyson BA (Hons.)/76, Ontario College of Teachers (OCT).
