Overview

This award is generously established by a retired accounting professor and will support an outstanding MAcc student entering the program, providing critical funds to help offset the cost of their degree. We are excited to award the first endowed graduate scholarship for the Master of Accounting (MAcc) program at the Sprott School of Business in 2025!

Your donation will help us grow the endowed fund, allowing us to offer more financial support to our students over time.

The Background

The MAcc program prepares students for a career as a professional accountant. Those enrolled earn a master’s degree while working towards becoming a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).

Accounting is usually seen only as a technical practice. However, accounting is a practice that enables organizational action and is key in directing and governing organizations, economies, and societies. Growing our student base in accounting not only makes a direct impact on our School, but also society at large as we are helping to shape these students and give them the tools for success for years to come.

The Rollout

The Retired Accounting Professor Scholarship will be awarded annually by the Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs on the recommendation of the Dean of the Sprott School of Business. The award will provide much-needed financial support to an outstanding graduate student who is entering the Master of Accounting (MAcc) program at the Sprott School of Business.

The Impact

This scholarship will have a direct, tangible impact on future recipients, and as an endowed fund, it will exist in perpetuity, supporting students for years to come.

Beyond the financial support, this award can entice more students to consider our MAcc program, where our passionate professors see the potential in every student and encourage and cheer them on throughout their time at the School.

“Having a scholarship would help students focus on their studies”, says Naser Habibzadeh, MAcc Alumnus 2023. “Accounting is the language of business, and everyone can benefit from it. We know that accountants are playing a big role in making our society better, making communities better than yesterday.”

As the program is training future CPAs, our hope is that the funding we raise can attract even more of the best and brightest minds to Carleton University.
