Overview
LunarCUlture is a student capstone design team at Carleton University working toward the development of automated food production systems for future lunar habitats. To support long-term life on the Moon, systems will be needed to grow food while making the most of limited resources such as water, materials, and space.
Our team is developing systems for automated hydroponic plant growth, nutrient delivery, plant health monitoring, and resource reuse. Through engineering design, research, and experimental testing, we are working to determine how plants can be grown efficiently and sustainably in a lunar environment.
With funding opportunities heavily reduced this year, we are reaching out for support to help cover the cost of materials, equipment, and prototype development. Every contribution helps us continue our research, test our designs, and move closer to making sustainable food production on the Moon a reality.
The Background
Our cause is advancing sustainable food production for future lunar exploration. We are working to develop automated growing systems that make efficient use of limited resources, helping support long-term human life on the Moon. Through student-led research and development under the support of Dr. Frei, Dr. Ellery, and Dr. Kabir, we aim to contribute to the future of space exploration and sustainable agriculture.
The Rollout
Funds raised will directly help us purchase the materials, equipment, and components needed to build prototypes, conduct experiments, and test our plant growth and resource management systems. Funding will also support our work on sanitization and reuse methods to reduce waste and conserve water within future lunar growing systems. Every contribution will help us continue developing and testing our designs while giving us experience and opportunities to grow!
The Impact
Any support will help LunarCUlture continue developing systems that could one day make growing food on the Moon possible. By contributing to our project, you are supporting our research in space exploration, sustainable agriculture, and resource management. Our work aims to address the challenges of growing plants in an environment where resources are limited and everything must be used efficiently. Every donation brings us one step closer to making sustainable food production beyond Earth a reality.
