Overview
In-Des-Canada is a student-led initiative co-founded by Master of Design students – Alexandra Shevtsova (BID, MDes) and Richard Sandanam (BComm, MDes). We’re launching a student-led community-focused conference for emerging industrial designers and other academic and industry professionals. We believe in creating connections between the professional industry, academia and emerging talent to allow design leaders to shine and support them in adding value to our community.
We are partnering with the Master of Design program, the School of Industrial Design and Realtor.ca to support our inaugural event. Our shared vision is shaping the new era of design through collaboration, research and allowing emerging designers to shine and explore their talent.
This event is especially focused on and valuable for graduate students beyond design. Our speakers, presentations and Q&A panel will allow students and community members to delve into the world of design and explore it together, seeing how they can apply it in their field, and how they already engage in design, because, as we believe, we are all designers who should come together to shift boundaries through creativity and innovation.
The Background
This event is one of the first ones of its kind – showcasing design research and its applications in various domains like engineering, psychology, business, health, medicine, technology and science. Sharing the way design research can extract qualitative data and understand lived experience of users and participants is crucial for maintaining insightful, inclusive and meaningful practices.
Beyond this, our objectives include creating, strengthening and forming an emerging community where design is included in the research and creative process, and is an insightful tool available to many, regardless of academic or professional background.
The Rollout
Your support will help ensure the success of the event by funding key areas including venue rental, catering, speaker honoraria, promotional efforts and more.
The Impact
The impact of our community-oriented conference reaches far beyond emerging designers and other disciplines. We want to provide opportunities for students to contribute to the community, explore their passions and talents and foster connections, setting them up for future after graduation.
We believe in strengthening connections between the professional industry, academia and emerging talent to allow design leaders to shine and support them in adding value to our community. Your support in our efforts will allow us to bring this inaugural event to life and contribute to our community beyond design academia – by inviting and engaging with leaders, students and professionals from the academic community of Carleton, various communities in Ottawa, and beyond.
