Overview
For the past thirty years, students in the Bachelor of Humanities program have joined a dynamic community of peers and faculty dedicated to creative and sustained engagement with the most influential literature and art from the ancient world to contemporary Canada. In commemoration of our 30th anniversary celebrations, the College Alumni are creating a Bachelor of the Humanities Alumni Research Internship to assist full-time returning undergraduate students in gaining valuable research experience.
The Internship fund will allow a student to carry out a research project proposal under the supervision of a faculty member in the College of the Humanities. The selected recipient is expected to conduct 100 hours of research during an academic term or over the summer. This represents a time commitment of at least a .5 credit course and recipients are required to:
- Have regular meetings with their supervisor;
- Produce a report on their research, equivalent to a major term paper;
- Deliver a presentation on their work at a Humanities event.
The Rollout
With the support of our alumni community, we hope to establish the Bachelor of the Humanities Alumni Summer Internship following our 30th anniversary reunion, with an inaugural student internship taking place in 2027. Together, alumni contributions will create a lasting legacy, ensuring future students have access to valuable research opportunities for years to come.
The Impact
Reaching our initial fundraising goal of $2500 will provide financial support for one student to participate in a Summer 2027 research internship. This funding will help reduce financial barriers that might otherwise prevent a student from pursuing this valuable opportunity while enabling them to gain meaningful undergraduate research experience.
Through the internship, the student will develop a range of transferable skills, including conducting rigorous research using credible sources, analyzing complex problems and developing evidence-based solutions, strengthening academic writing and communication, and presenting their findings to an audience. These opportunities will enrich their academic journey, prepare them for future studies, and provide unique professional experience.
