Travel encourages a deeper connection to and understanding of the iconic structures, urban cultures, and social histories that contribute to a deep understanding of Architecture and Urban Design. Up to now, the opportunity to travel has been open only to the students who can afford the additional expense. What should be available to all, is available only to some.
This year we are inaugurating a new fellowship for our Master of Architecture students, to support travel during the summer prior to their thesis year. The travel fellowship may be used for site analysis, archival research, or conference attendance.
The Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism at Carleton has a rich reputation for design excellence, unrestrained experimentation, and strong studio culture. By offering our students opportunities to supplement the extraordinary studio culture with travel to exciting global cities we create innovative thinkers, passionate problem-solvers and industry leaders around the world.
Through the first phase of this project, we aim to raise $6,000 in support of graduate thesis research travel. By the end of the 2016/2017 academic year, our overall goal is to raise $15,000 so these competitive fellowship opportunities can be awarded to six deserving Master of Architecture students and enable them to approach their theses through a richer, more experienced lens
Starting in the Summer 2017 term, we plan to offer this competitive fellowship to six Masters students, based on the submission of a research proposal and design portfolio. Each fellowship will be in the amount of $2500.
Through support for the Master of Architecture Thesis Research Fellowship, the benefits of international travel are available on an equitable and inclusive basis.
Please consider a gift of $500 or $1000 to support graduate thesis travel research. Through superlative learning opportunities and building alumni engagement in the School, we will develop to be the best school of architecture in Canada.
Update: Make your gift to the Master of Architecture Travel Research Fellowship on Carleton’s Giving Tuesday on November 29, 2016, and your support will go twice as far. On this day, through an exciting 1:1 matching opportunity, Carleton will be matching every gift made (up to $1000) as long as funds last. Join us in opening new worlds of possibility for future architects who will be equipped to serve a culturally rich, technologically dynamic, and globalized world.
