The Carleton Ravens men’s basketball program continues to be the benchmark for excellence in Canadian university basketball, winning the past seven U Sport titles in a row and 13 of the past 15 championships. David Dunsmore, a proud graduate and Ravens fan, is devoted to helping the team raise its game even higher. This is the fourth year he has agreed to match gifts to support the team.
Throughout all the U Sports conferences, competition is increasing as other varsity basketball programs improve. The Ravens’ budget, while competitive with other programs, is unable to cover all of the costs associated with running an elite U Sports institution and provide the competitive experience our athletes deserve.
We need additional funds to enhance practice and game performance, develop new leadership and recruitment opportunities and provide student-athletes with extra tools to attain and exceed academic goals.
This is year 4 of Mr. Dunsmore’s 5-year matching challenge. The matching program will continue with adjustments made to the starting point each year as appropriate.
Part One of the challenge was to raise $60,000 to “unlock” the Dunsmore Challenge matching opportunity. Thanks to our donors who helped us reach $60,000 in gifts, we’re in Phase Two: Mr. Dunsmore will now match every gift (received before April 30, 2018) to a maximum of $50,000.
It’s an incredibly generous offer to help the Ravens access $160,000 a year for five years. The money will be used to support all aspects of the Raven’s men’s basketball program with a focus on coaching support and non-conference travel opportunities.
You can make your one-time gift here on the FutureFunder. If you’d prefer, you can also make a monthly pledge at carleton.ca/giving or contact Paul Armstrong, senior development officer, at 613-520-2600 ext. 1158 or email@example.com. Payments pledged for the 2017-18 fiscal year will not appear on the FutureFunder automatically but will be added to the total.
Our varsity players benefit from new coaching and training initiatives, expanded opportunities for international competition, and meal funds for better nutritional options. When our athletes can concentrate on playing, instead of out-of-pocket costs, we see the positive repercussions on the court.
