Men’s Soccer – 82 Club

The rundown

As one of the most iconic and successful programs in the nation, Carleton University Ravens men’s soccer program has had a storied history since the program restarted in 1982. Consistently a top contender, the Ravens have competed in Nationals six times, and produced countless CIS All-Canadians and OUA All-Stars. This year the team won the OUA East regular season title and have been ranked as high as #4 in Top Ten polls.

The continuity of strong coaching leadership in the program has been a key component and has helped ensure the program remains atop the OUA and U Sports standings.  With the retirement of legendary Coach Sandy Mackie a new era of Ravens Soccer has begun. Former Raven Kwesi Loney has taken over the reins and is committed to continuing to build the Ravens soccer culture in the years to come. The players strive to be their best in the classroom and on the field which in turn helps them succeed in their prospective careers long after they have graduated.

Last year, our soccer alumni and supporters came together to support the Men’s Varsity Soccer Bursary matching gift initiative. With over 100 gifts and matching support from Carleton the bursary now has over $75,000 in the endowment. The team’s next priority is centred around the need to directly support our players to enable them to reach their potential as student athletes. To that end, funds will be used to hire tutors, to provide mentoring support and to develop academic skills through study hall opportunities. There are also plans to use funds to make locker room enhancements including an Alumni Wall of Honour, displaying the names of all the Ravens soccer athletes who have played for the program.  To reach our $10,000 goal we are asking supporters to join the ’82 Club.

As part of Carleton’s Collaborate Campaign this year’s 82’ Club initiative is asking supporters to consider a five year pledge of $100 a year to support the team’s fundraising priorities. The ’82 Club refers to the year the Ravens Soccer program returned and our goal is to have a minimum of ‘82 members in the ’82 Club within the next two years. We currently have 11 supporters pledging a minimum of $100 for five years. Please join us.

Your support will help our players be the best they can be on and off the field through tutoring and mentorship support.  Enhanced academic skills enable the players to better juggle the obligations of being a student-athlete. Future locker room enhancements will help ensure there is ample space in the room and will assist in recruiting future Ravens.
