Establish a Scholarship or Bursary for Carleton Students

Carleton University is proud to have one of Canada’s best student aid programs, and alumni and friends of the university make this continued success possible. Donors may choose to establish a scholarship, which recognizes academic achievement, or establish a bursary, which supports those in financial need. Donors may also choose to designate their award toward a specific department or academic unit.

Creating a named Non-Endowed (Expendable) fund
You may create a named expendable fund with a minimum investment of $5,000 payable over 5 years—for example, creating the Jane Smith Memorial Bursary for Music Students. A non-endowed award provides annual support to students.

Creating a named Endowed award
You may choose to establish a named endowment fund with a minimum investment of $25,000—for example, creating the Jane Smith Memorial Scholarship for Music Students. As an endowed fund, your award exists in perpetuity with the university, meaning you will help generations of young people succeed.  An investment of $25,000 will make approximately $1,000 available each year to a student.

Awards may be named in honour of the donor, or named to honour a family member, friend or favourite professor. Once it’s established, you’ll be kept informed annually about your student recipient and, whenever possible, you’ll receive a personal message from the student you’re helping.

Matching funds available!
Student support is a university priority. For a limited time, Carleton is matching 1:1 gifts from donors that create expendable or endowed student awards. To learn more about the matching gift options available to you and how you can easily establish a named award, contact Annual Giving Officer Mary Kange at 613-520-2600, ext. 8976, or email mary.kange@carleton.ca. Thank you.
