Each year, fourth-year undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Film Studies at Carleton have the opportunity to attend one of the most coveted events in the film industry—the Toronto International Film Festival. As one of the largest and most prestigious film festivals in the world, students have the chance to see a showcase of Canadian and international cinema while gaining access to resources and networking opportunities. By supporting this campaign, you are ensuring that students have the chance to extend their experience with film culture from the Carleton campus out into the community.

The Background

The Toronto International Film Festival has gained international recognition for bringing together top film artists, industry personnel and scholars from around the globe. Carleton@TIFF is a unique opportunity for students to put their fingers on the very pulse of contemporary cinema, and be part of debates related to its past and future directions.

Highlights of past Carleton@TIFF trips have included the Master Classes with major voices in contemporary cinema, including such world-class directors as Patrizio Guzman (Chile), Hirokazu Kore-eda (Japan) (winner of the 2018 Palme d’Or at Cannes), Richie Mehta (Canada) and Bornila Chatterjee (India). We are looking forward to seeing what the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival will bring, and how Carleton students will be a part of this milestone as it unfolds.

The Rollout

We are seeking your support to help make Carleton@TIFF more financially accessible to students from all socio-economic backgrounds. At this time Carleton typically covers accommodation expenses, while students cover transportation costs, meals and their festival pass which equates to approximately $600 per student. Your generosity will help reduce financial barriers, by providing assistance to students who wish to participate and do not have the means to do so.

The Impact

Carleton@TIFF is an invaluable opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the film industry by building meaningful connections with filmmakers around the world, and experiencing the art of filmmaking firsthand. Experiential learning enhances the academic journey by providing students with new perspectives, creative outlets and elevating knowledge and skills gained in the classroom.
