The return of Ravens Football in 2013 has been a huge success both on and off the field — three post-season appearances, the return of the Panda Game with 24,000+ fans, and 17 players either drafted or signed by CFL teams in the past three years. Off the field, the Ravens Revival has enhanced Carleton’s fall Throwback homecoming celebrations, and has engaged our football alumni (Old Crows) and the community at large to invest in the long-term sustainability of the program. The return of Ravens Football has been a true success story.
Ravens Football has a roster of more than 80 student-athletes, recruiting 20+ players a year. These students give back to the university and community as ambassadors through school visits, working at our Junior Ravens program and supporting an annual Ravens Football Blood Donor Clinic. The time demands of being a student-athlete very much limit any work opportunities for them during the school year. To support our students who are available to work but require flexible hours, the coaching staff is looking to fund several Football Internships.
The Carleton Ravens Football Internships will provide paid intern positions to top Ravens football student-athletes during the summer months. Interns will be those special players who go above and beyond in their community outreach activities and contribute greatly on the field and in the classroom. The interns chosen will work at the Junior Ravens camps, make appearances at elementary schools and university events, assist coaches with key administrative tasks, help with our social media outreach and help steward our many donors to the program through a ‘Thank You’ phone-a-thon/email campaign.
The program currently supports two students in the summer. This FutureFunder project aims to create up to eight internships (valued at $6,000 each) for the program in the 2020 summer work term. The students will benefit from the chance to earn money to pay for their educational expenses while learning valuable skills in the functioning of a multi-faceted football operation. In addition, the interns will gain the opportunity to network with alumni and members of the community.
