Overview
The Carleton University Nordic Ski Team is one of Carleton’s most successful varsity teams with numerous achievements at the provincial, national and international level. The Nordic Ski Team provides high-level training and race opportunities which draw talented athletes from across Canada and the US looking to remain invested in the ski community while pursuing their academic goals. The Raven’s Nordic ski team is a group of incredibly hard working student athletes with ambitious goals, inspiring achievements, and a fun, inclusive team atmosphere.
The Background
This season the team is looking to expand their race calendar to include an opportunity for athletes to attend a US Super Tour Race held in Lake Placid NY. This race would provide an opportunity to race a wider group of skiers than those who attend the local and provincial races. The experience of racing new athletes on a new race course is a great development opportunity as well as a chance to bond as a team. It helps to develop university racing as an high quality alternative option for continued athlete development. Attending this race is dependent on funding that will make travel and registration costs affordable for our athletes to reduce the out of pocket expenses. The Rollout
Donations will support a team of up to 20 athletes and 4 support staff who will be attending the weekend of racing in Lake Placid. Funds will cover travel and lodging expenses as well as race registration costs. Due to the financial support, this is a larger team than the one that will be attending OUAs, the provincial University championships. Allowing more athletes to gain high level racing experience helps to ensure the continued depth of talent within the team and enhances overall love for sport.
