For the past several years the Carleton University Physics Department has hosted an annual public lecture, showcasing research done within the department as well as high-profile new discoveries from around the world. Students are exposed to the excitement of cutting-edge physics and get to see how the material they are learning in their courses translates to the real world. We are asking alumni and friends of the University to join us in making this annual event possible for years to come.
The Physics Department’s annual public lecture has been a great success over the past several years. By endowing this lecture series we ensure that it continues as the premier annual public event hosted by the Physics Department.
Our goal is to raise $25,000 by the end of December 2019. Each donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar (up to $12,500), which will ensure that the lecture successfully continues for years to come. This would endow the fund, providing $1000 each year towards the cost of bringing in a high-profile speaker.
This annual lecture provides students, alumni, and the public with a unique opportunity to learn about cutting-edge physics research live from an expert in the field. By providing a venue for student/alumni networking it also expands students’ understanding of post-degree career trajectories and the real-world applications of the skills they are acquiring during their time at Carleton. Your support is highly appreciated!
