The sudden passing of Ravens Hockey alum, Paul Correy (BEng/74), was a great loss to his family and the Ravens Hockey fraternity. Our hockey alumni, the “Bald Ravens”, were thrilled to see the return of the program in 2007-08 season after Paul had established a club team in 1991. A big part of the return of the program was due to Paul’s time and energy in making the case for support to bring back the program. In 2006-2007, his hard work paid off with revival of the varsity Ravens men’s hockey program and the opening of a new $13 million Ice House complex. His tireless efforts were recognized at the 2007 Carleton Alumni Association Awards as Volunteer of the Year, thereafter in 2014 Paul was inducted into the Carleton Athletics Hall of Fame.
In the spring of 2018, immediately following his passing, Paul’s family established the Paul Correy Memorial Fund–now called the Paul Correy Memorial Scholarship–in order to recognize Paul’s immense contribution to Ravens Hockey. The Correy family are asking for your support to the scholarship. A gift to the Paul Correy Memorial Scholarship directly supports our Ravens hockey student athletes while remembering Paul’s amazing contribution to the program.
Awarded annually to student athletes who are members of the Carleton University Men’s Varsity Hockey Team. Eligible students must be listed on a USPORTS eligibility Certificate as member of the Carleton University inter-university team and comply with OUA and USPORTS academic eligibility requirements. Selection will be made by the Athletics Awards Committee in consultation with the team coaches. Consideration will be made for a student-athlete that demonstrates the attributes such as integrity, respect, generosity, tenacity and optimism.
Endowed in 2018 by the Correy Family, extended family, lifelong friends and the Carleton University Men’s Hockey Program Alumni in loving memory of Paul Correy, BEng/74, who was a former Raven’s Hockey player, 2007 Carleton Alumni Association Awards – Volunteer of the Year and Carleton Athletics Hall of Fame Inductee in 2014.
Paul Correy will forever be remembered as the builder of the Carleton University Men’s Hockey Program.
Our goal is to raise $100,000 by the end of December 2019, as Carleton University will match all gifts received up to that point. We have $53,157 remaining in match that we hope to unlock by the end of the year. This means that each donation made will have double the impact!
To date, the generosity of our donors has been overwhelming and we are looking to make even more of an impact in 2019. Last year, a total of 141 donors to the Paul Correy Memorial Scholarship came together to raise over $ 46,000, and over $77,000 in matching funds were unlocked. With your support, we are hoping to surpass this and set a new milestone for 2019.
The Paul Correy Memorial Scholarship will provide a yearly Athletic Financial Award (AFA) to one, or more, Ravens Varsity Hockey players in perpetuity. This award will ensure the recipients are able to focus on their schoolwork and hockey development and lessen the financial burden of tuition fees and living expenses. Paul was all about helping students be their best and this award is a fitting way to remember his important contribution to the men’s varsity Hockey program at Carleton and to help ensure that Ravens Hockey is here for generations of athletes and fans to come.
