In 1996 the Carleton University Men’s Soccer Alumni Chapter created the Men’s Varsity Soccer Bursary, which started with a gift from former Raven & chapter president Mike Lanos and his committee. We would like to see the bursary continue to grow so that we can support future players for generations to come.
As one of the most iconic and successful programs in the nation, Carleton University Ravens men’s soccer program has had a storied history since the program restarted in 1982. Consistently a top contender, the Ravens have competed in Nationals six times, and produced countless CIS All-Canadians (U Sport) and OUA All-Stars.
The continuity of strong coaching leadership in the program has been a key component and has helped ensure the program remains atop the OUA and CIS standings. For more than twenty years, Head Coach Sandy Mackie has built the Ravens soccer culture, and now Coach Kwesi Loney has taken on the responsibility. The players strive to be their best in the classroom and on the field which in turn helps them succeed in their prospective careers long after they have graduated.
The bursary is awarded annually to a deserving student-athlete who is listed on a U-Sport/OUA Eligibility Certificate as a member of a Carleton University interuniversity soccer team. Funds will help the student with tuition fees and the cost of books, ensuring that student-athletes may excel both academically and on the field.
