CU InSpace is a dynamic competition team within the Faculty of Engineering and Design that specializes in the production of high powered rockets. The team is comprised of undergraduate students that have a passion for rockets and design. Founded in 2015, CU InSpace works to compete in the annual Spaceport America Cup, formerly known as Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition.

The Background

In 2017 the CU InSpace team competed successfully against 120 international teams at the Spaceport America Cup in New Mexico. They were one of 63 that successfully managed to launch their rocket. The team was one of 25 to be selected to present at a podium session at the competition due to the unique design of the body of the rocket.

CU InSpace competed in the 2018 Spaceport America Cup as well. We recovered our entire rocket as well as the payload which led to a 27 out of 48 place finish in our respective category.

At the 2019 competition our team launched and recovered our rocket for the second year in a row! Our GPS system worked very well and it allowed us to help find other teams rockets as well as our own.

All of these accomplishments could not have been achieved without your generous support.

The Rollout

This fund will support the CU Inspace team within the Faculty of Engineering and Design by offsetting costs related to the creation and testing of our rocket so that we can continue to make Carleton University proud through participation at global competitions.

The Impact

CU InSpace furthers the development of the tools needed by students in the aerospace field after graduation. Additionally, the club aids in the development of technical knowledge that students can use in the future upon entering the industry. Working in a team environment allows students to collaborate in a friendly environment with fellow students who share similar interests. In addition to helping students within the Carleton community, the club is reaching out to high schools in Ottawa to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs.
