The Women’s Rugby team is now in its 10th year as a varsity program. With a record-setting season (7-2) the team brought home the bronze in the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) for the first time in program history. The team has worked hard throughout the pandemic and because of the student-athletes dedication, they are continuing to strive to become the greatest team in USports Rugby and the country.
As the Ravens head into their off-season training, they continue to train multiple times a week in the gym and on the pitch, and will compete in multiple 7’s tournaments to improve their skills through the winter months.. With an overwhelming response to last year’s campaign, we reached our goal of $8,000 (~$15,000 with matching from Carleton), and this year our goal is to raise $10,000 for our 10th anniversary as a varsity team. With your support we can achieve this, and reach our goal of buying a new set of alternate jerseys, along with saving up for much-needed team room renovations.
We are looking for your contribution to help support the future of varsity Women’s Rugby at Carleton University. On top of year-round rugby training, team members are full-time students, and have part-time work and/or volunteer positions in the community. Our student-athletes are extremely dedicated and determined to improve individual and team skills throughout the off-season and leading into next year.
With a growing network of young alumni, the team relies on the generous support of family, friends, and donors. With your support, we can ensure that the team meets their objectives, allowing them to perform at their best while worrying a little less about finances.
Funds raised through this campaign will go directly towards purchasing a set of alternate jerseys for the 2022 season. The team will put the remaining funds aside for change room renovations, as there are only 18 lockers and 35 players. Early ideas for renovations include a shoe shelf and adding locker space.
Your support is an investment for not only the Rugby program, but for the student-athletes who help to spread Ravens pride both on and off the field.
By supporting our cause, you’re helping to increase team morale for our student-athletes to pursue academic, athletic, and community endeavours as Ravens.
The team is always striving to make a positive impact in the Ottawa community and beyond. Last month, they helped with a breast cancer awareness event on campus, and they are currently running a food drive. Over the course of the winter they are planning more ways to give back to the community that has given them so much.
In 2020, team members formed a Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity (REDI) task force. Its purpose within the team is to create a safe space to have open conversations about social justice issues, such as racism, intersectionality, privilege, how to be a good accomplice, to provide resources on self-education, and to raise awareness. The group has created a culture shift within the team, and hopes to make a lasting impact within the community.
